Apple aesthetics: a look at the iPhone's design history

iphone design

The original iPhone, as mentioned is an absolutely iconic design. It can’t possibly be considered the best iPhone design ever, but to be able to rank it so highly amongst all that have come since speaks volumes to Apple’s original success in reinventing the phone. In our hands, we have all of Apple's 2022 iPhones alongside models of the purported 2023 models, including the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. As demonstrated, screen sizes will likely remain the same with two measuring 6.1 inches and two measuring in at 6.7 inches.

iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max (

He designed and develop every generation of the iPhone, which shows his unique skills of innovation. The design and development of iPhone is mostly done in the United States, especially in California, where the Apple headquarter is located. Finishing up with the iPhone 15's back panel, there are still some rumored changes here that may be hard to see but will still have an impact. When comparing the physical size of the iPhone 15 Pro to the 14 Pro, the new phone is thicker but narrower and shorter. This means that the iPhone 15 Pro fits in an iPhone 14 Pro case, but slides right out because of the smaller dimensions.

iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max (

One of the flagship features of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro is support for 5G connectivity. There is support for mmWave 5G in the United States exclusively, and support for sub-6GHz 5G in other countries as well as in the U.S. This was changed to a glass screen ahead of the phone's launch on June 29. In 2017, Apple chief operating officer Jeff Williams described a last-minute dash to perfect the glass screen technology. The most comprehensive guide I could find besides this one on making human-readable iPhone app guidelines (besides this one 😉). Everything the user should be able to tap on – every button, every slider, every input control – should be at least 44x44 pts in size.

Apple ID Accounts Logging Out Users and Requiring Password Reset

For example, if you are an iPhone user and you decide that you need a tablet, you are most likely going to go with an iPad because it will “just work” with your iPhone. Apple has done an excellent job designing these products and services so that users do not have to mess with troubleshooting connection issues, device incompatibility, and so forth. Apple says the form factors of the larger iPhone 12 Pro devices are “nearly the same” than the smaller iPhone 11 Pro models they replace, even though the screen sizes have increased. The frame of the iPhone 12 Pro is made out of a durable and shiny stainless steel material available in four different finishes.

Secondary Text Styling for iPhone Apps

You remember the advert, “something something your thumb goes from here to here, so why shouldn’t your phone? The iPhone 5 was so much longer than the 4 and 4S that it was almost comical, yet its fabulous aluminum back and dark colors were an iconic design in the iPhone’s history. The 5S brought even more to the table with the first ever Touch ID Home button.

The original arrived in 2007, but rumors started swirling way back in late 2004. That backside was a two-tone affair with a band of black plastic along the bottom matching the iconic Apple branding up top and the edge-mounted buttons. Folk who splurged for the AT&T-exclusive handset may also recall the 3.5mm audio jack that only seemed to accept the included earbuds and not much else.

iphone design

Heaven knows Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines are awful to try and read. The releases of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 is shaping up to be Apple's biggest OS refresh in a decade. On top of expected machine learning and AI advancements, the stock apps and overall look will be getting a makeover.

The iPhone 12 Pro features a triple-lens camera setup on the back with a telephoto lens, an ultra wide lens, and a wide lens. Compared to the iPhone 11, the 2020 iPhone is 11% thinner and 15% smaller in volume. Apple has adopted OLED displays across the board, improving contrast and brightness over last year’s LCD display iPhone 11 model.

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are also both powered by a new A14 Bionic processor that uses a new 5 nanometer process to reduce transistor size. Apple says the new six-core CPU is up to 50% faster than any other smartphone. The iPhone 12 also includes a new 4-core GPU, which is up to 50% faster than the competition.

While the company disagrees with the accusations, other European countries seem to agree with France. Amid this situation, Apple has reportedly asked its employees to keep quiet about the radiation levels of the iPhone 12. A report of an Apple GPU security flaw has been confirmed by the company, acknowledging that the iPhone 12 and M2 MacBook Air are affected. Apple has secured special deals with Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon to offer the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 at $699/$799, respectively.

design your own koozie

Once cut, you can weed the excess away from your design. Weeding tools make this easier but are optional. You only want to be left with exactly what you want to transfer to your can koozie. We are going to cover using heat transfer vinyl first then you will find the instructions for using Cricut Infusible Ink on a can koozie after that.

NeopreneFull Color

Remember to cut liner side down on the mat and mirror your design before cutting. It is also better to remove the mat from the material and not the material from the mat. Kustom Koozies has been proudly printing KOOZIE can coolers and assorted drink coolers since 1998.We print Wedding KOOZIEs, promotional items, wine wraps, solo cup wraps and more.

Step One. Prepare Cut File.

design your own koozie

Infusible Ink will allow the color of your blank to come through the ink. So, for our example, we added a blue heart to a green koozie. The result is a dark green heart instead of a blue one. You can see the same blue sheet applied to an off white blank below as well for comparison. So, while you can apply the sheets to the colored can koozies, you cannot predict what the final color will be once pressed. First up, we have the Cricut Infusible Ink sheets then we will also use the Infusible Ink Markers below.

Yes, images need to be mirrored when using iron-on vinyl. Symmetrical designs can be left as is, but the text should always be mirrored. When using iron-on vinyl, cover the plastic protective sheet with a Teflon sheet, towel, or pressing sheet.

We have tons of great graphics that are totally wedding oriented. Many of our customer start with us as we print for their wedding. We often are part of their bachelor or bachelorette party. They have also been designed to be able to keep your hands from getting damp while keeping the temperature of the cold drinks regulated. These simple yet effective items can be completely customized without them costing an arm and leg. One of their main advantages is that they are such an affordable means of advertising that almost any business can make use of them as promotional items.

STEP 5: Clip the corners and turn around

Since my pool float designs are multi-color, we will need to make a few different cuts – one for each color of vinyl being used. This is a pretty simple iron on project, but if you are new to working with heat transfer vinyl, be sure to check out my beginner’s guide to working with heat transfer vinyl first right HERE. If you are using a heat press, however, be sure to watch your pressure.

Can you use the Infusible Ink sheets on colored blanks?

Choose from different styles, colors, materials, and sizes, and add your own logo, text, or design. You can also order koozies in bulk and save money. Custom koozies are not only practical, but also fun and memorable. Now that you know how easy it is to make your own koozie with heat transfer vinyl, you can dream up a ton of designs!

Bend the Infusible Ink to crack it then lift away excess with your fingers or with tweezers. If using your fingers make sure they’re dry and you’re not touching the ink too much. You can see more about the weeding process here. Place the loop strip next to one of the short edges of the fabric.

For those of you who don’t know Jen Crissman is the co-owner of CoolieNation, who understands how things work on both the production and customer service side. She always has a positive attitude especially when it comes to talking about custom Koozie products... They're a wonderful way to make your custom product extra special.

So, will you be making a few koozies of your very own? Will you use heat transfer vinyl or Cricut Infusible Ink? Wedding KOOZIEs are a big part of our business.

The summer koozie designs come in one file. You will need to ungroup the designs to delete the ones that you don’t want to use. If you’re having a hard time getting the vinyl to stick, use a thinner towel on top of the iron-on vinyl and press longer.

For Sale By Owner: How to Sell Your Own Home

selling a house without a realtor

The commission is typically split with the buyer’s agent, so you may still have to pay around 3% if the buyer chooses to use one. Skilled listing agents find highly qualified buyers to sell your home for the most money. Selling your home without an agent means you’ll need to do the extra work to find the right buyer. If your home is priced right, an offer will typically come through in 30–45 days. In the meantime, brush up on your negotiation skills if you receive multiple competitive offers or an offer below your list price.

If all this sounds like a lot of time and work, you may decide that the listing agent is worth their commission price. You can always hire a Realtor in Canada to help you list your home. If your home has been sitting on the market too long you may want to consider the pros and cons of waiting for a stronger offer to come along. This is where the expertise of a Realtor can often come in handy. Realtors pay close attention to the local real estate market and can advise you if it’s better to negotiate a lower price now or wait it out until another buyer comes along. Selling a house without a Realtor may leave you feeling unsure if you should negotiate on the listing price or not.

Host open houses

This page will take a look at how to sell your house privately, the benefits and challenges of FSBO, and services and platforms that can help FSBO listings. Selling a home without a Realtor may be an option if you’re trying to save money on real estate commissions. The typical real estate commission is 5% to 6% of the purchase price paid for by the seller and split between the two agents. So if you sell for $250,000, you might need to dish out as much as $12,500 to $15,000 to pay your listing agent and the buyer’s agent. Closing involves a lot of paperwork, which is why a lawyer is needed.

If you’re researching how to sell your house without a Realtor, it’s likely you have mixed emotions. Venturing into the realm of selling your home can evoke a blend of excitement and apprehension, particularly when you opt to navigate the process without a real estate agent. When navigating how to sell your own home, one of the most important steps you can take is investing in high-quality listing photos. Most homebuyers search for homes online first and photos are the first thing they’ll see.

Selling a House Privately (Without a Real Estate Agent)

Eliminating the realtor can save you as much as 6 percent in commissions. There are many FSBO listing services online that not only are places that you can list your FSBO home, but they can also offer assistance and services to help you in your private home sale. During this time, you'll also want to hold home viewings and open houses. Usually hosted by a real estate agent, you can show buyers your home yourself and become your own salesperson. This can involve managing appointments and scheduling home showings.

The New Capital Gains Tax, and Rental Payments Now Factored into Credit Scores

Of course, this might be easier said than done if you’ve lived in a home for 10, 20 or 30 years. Pricing too high based on what you believe the home should go for without considering the market might cause it to sit unsold for an extended period. These platforms often charge a service fee that can cut into your profit, but the tradeoff is the convenience of not having to tour buyers or negotiate repairs. Information online can help you along the way, but there can be limits to what you can find online about comps when doing market research. Some information agents gather for you about comps and market trends may not be available to the public. Listing a home without an agent means you’ll be braving all, or at least some, of the process without someone to advise you on pricing, marketing and negotiations.

Step 1. Research Your Listing Price

Be strategic and don’t demand too much but also stand your ground if something is important to you. Your home’s listing price is essential as it’s one of the main things that a buyer will look at first. It’s a good idea to get a home appraisal in order to find the real value for your home. Sometimes home renovations can help increase the value of your home and be worth the cost. For example, if your kitchen is outdated and poses a risk of scaring away potential buyers, a kitchen remodel might be worth it to breathe some life back into the home. Small home improvements can also be done to update your home, such as replacing light fixtures and light bulbs, installing a smart thermostat, or adding more insulation.

Start Taking Offers

Even if an attorney isn’t required, it may be beneficial to hire one when selling your own home. An attorney can help you prepare the necessary paperwork, such as legally mandated disclosure documents. If there are questions about the home’s title or boundary disputes, a lawyer can also help you resolve those issues. If you accept the offer, an inspector will come out to assess your home.

Professional listing photos Don’t expect buyers to take your listing seriously if all of the photos were shot on your smartphone. Pay for a professional real estate photographer to take photos and videos for around $350 to $650. You’ll be taking on the job of a real estate professional, including answering calls and being flexible with potential buyers. The more professional you are, the more likely buyers will take you seriously. Remember that buyers often go back and forth multiple times before reaching a final agreement. In this process, be realistic about your price, concessions and the speed of the sale.

You can always return at the end of the showing time and answer any questions they may have for you about the property. Print out information sheets for the open house and greet potential buyers into your home. Show them around and answer any questions they may have for you about the property.

From there, you’ll sign all of the paperwork and hand over the keys. Start with a plan for how you'll manage the entire home selling process. You will be responsible for marketing, showing, staging and setting the price of your home, as well as negotiating with and vetting buyers. Using for sale by owner websites, you can pay for professional help with some of the responsibilities. But don’t expect to pocket the listing agent’s entire commission, which can be up to 6% of a home’s selling price.

You can mull it over, but be mindful that these offers generally have expiration dates. If you decide to accept, you can often close in weeks or even days, on a timeline of your choosing, and you usually won’t have to pay any closing costs, commissions or service fees. Be sure to read the paperwork carefully, and don’t sign anything you don’t understand. Instead of a commission percentage you’d pay to most real estate agents, flat fee MLS companies post FSBO listings on the owner’s behalf.

Descriptive Research Design Types, Methods and Examples

In this step, you must determine the tools you will employ for the data collection process. Some examples of different tools that can be used are interviews, questionnaires, observation schedules, reaction scales, etc. In this type of survey, standardized data is collected from a cross-section of the pre-determined population at a given point in time.

This is a quantitative description technique that seeks to answer questions about real-life situations. For example, a researcher researching the income of the employees in a company, and the relationship with their performance. Descriptive research focuses on providing a detailed depiction of a phenomenon, while exploratory research aims to explore and generate insights into an issue where little is known. The funder had no role in the conceptualization, design, data collection, analysis, decision to publish, or preparation of the manuscript. In this stage, you will have to identify which tools and techniques are relevant and valid to your study. Leverage robust survey software that offers you multiple channels, thus enabling you to utilize various channels to gather insights.

According to the Self-Determination Theory [52], relating to others by engaging in employment outside the home not only alleviates isolation but also enhances their motivation. Additionally, contributing to society as valued members of the healthcare profession enhances their self-esteem [36] and allows them to cultivate a professional identity. If their children or significant others take pride in the nursing profession, their identification with nursing becomes stronger. During the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses were portrayed as heroes combating the crisis, which enhanced their professional identity and the pride their families had in them.

Characteristics of descriptive research

Sandelowski (2000) indicated that qualitative content analysis is the approach of choice in descriptive research; however, confusion exists between content and thematic analysis, which sometimes means researchers use a combination of the two. Decisions to use one over the other will depend on the aims of the study, which will dictate the depth of analysis required. Although there is a range of analysis guidelines available, they share some characteristics and an overview of these, derived from some key texts (Sandleowski, 2010; Braun and Clark, 2006; Newell and Burnard, 2006), is presented in Table 1. Central to these guidelines is an attempt by the researcher to immerse themselves in the data and the ability to demonstrate a consistent and systematic approach to the analysis. Qualitative descriptive designs are common in nursing and healthcare research due to their inherent simplicity, flexibility and utility in diverse healthcare contexts. However, the application of descriptive research is sometimes critiqued in terms of scientific rigor.

Importance of Descriptive Research in Scientific Studies

descriptive design

It is often used in market research, psychology, and some other social science research to understand human behaviour. Descriptive research is a methodological approach that seeks to depict the characteristics of a phenomenon or subject under investigation. In scientific inquiry, it serves as a foundational tool for researchers aiming to observe, record, and analyze the intricate details of a particular topic.

By adding to the existing knowledge base, this paper enhances the information available to researchers who wish to use the qualitative descriptive approach, thus influencing the standard in how this approach is employed in healthcare research. As seen in our paper, qualitative descriptive studies have a role in healthcare research providing insight into service users and providers’ perceptions and experiences of a particular phenomenon, which can inform healthcare service provision. Focus group interviews are a common data collection method in qualitative descriptive studies and were the method of choice in a study by Pelentsov et al. (2015), which sought to identify the supportive care needs of parents whose child has a rare disease. The rationale provided for using a qualitative descriptive design was to obtain a ‘straight description of the phenomena’ and to provide analysis and interpretation of the findings that remained data-near and representative of the responses of participants.

About this article

descriptive design

In this study, four semi-structured focus group interviews were conducted with 23 parents. The data from these focus groups were then subjected to a form of thematic analysis during which emerging theories and inferences were identified and organised into a series of thematic networks and ultimately into three global themes. These themes identified that a number of factors including social isolation and lack of knowledge on behalf of healthcare professionals significantly affected how supported parents felt. Identifying key areas of the supportive needs of parents using qualitative description provides direction to health professionals on how best to respond to and support parents of children with a rare disease.

Because there are no variables manipulated, there is no way to statistically analyze the results. The results from a descriptive research can in no way be used as a definitive answer or to disprove a hypothesis but, if the limitations are understood, they can still be a useful tool in many areas of scientific research. For example, a business looking to sell to its target market should research the market’s behavior first.

Study designs: Part 2 – Descriptive studies

It involves open-ended interviews, observations, or small-scale surveys to gather qualitative data. The importance of descriptive research lies in its ability to provide a glimpse of the current state of a phenomenon, offering valuable insights and establishing a basic understanding. Further, the advantages of descriptive research include its capacity to offer a straightforward depiction of a situation or phenomenon, facilitate the identification of patterns or trends, and serve as a useful starting point for more in-depth investigations. Additionally, descriptive research can contribute to the development of hypotheses and guide the formulation of research questions for subsequent studies. Regarded as a positive aspect by many researchers who are interested in studying human nature and phenomenon, others believe this flexibility leads to inconsistency across studies and in some cases complacency by researchers. This can result in vague or unexplained decision making around the research process and subsequent lack of credibility.

This type of research provides a detailed and accurate picture of the characteristics and behaviors of a particular population or subject. By observing and collecting data on a given topic, descriptive research helps researchers gain a deeper understanding of a specific issue and provides valuable insights that can inform future studies. Ensuring credibility, confirmability, transferability and dependability contributes to the trustworthiness of the study [42].

Online data collection also offers the opportunity to collect synchronous and asynchronous data using instant messaging and other online media (Hooley et al., 2011). Online interviews or focus groups conducted via Skype or other media may overcome some of the limitations of telephone interviews, although observation of non-verbal communication may be more difficult to achieve (Janghorban et al., 2014). Purposive sampling refers to selecting research participants that can speak to the research aims and who have knowledge and experience of the phenomenon under scrutiny (Ritchie et al., 2014). In addition, the heterogeneity of the population will need to be considered and how this might influence sampling and subsequent data collection and analysis (Palinkas et al., 2015). Take, for example, conducting research on the experience of caring for people with Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

The measurement bias in this study would relate to the accuracy of measurement and the cutoff used. If the investigators had used a cutoff of −0.25 D (instead of −0.50 D) to define myopia, the prevalence would have been higher. Furthermore, if the measurements were not done accurately, some cases with myopia could have been missed, or vice versa, affecting the study results. This involves an in-depth examination of a single individual, group, or situation to gain a detailed understanding of its characteristics or dynamics.

Sample size will also need to be considered and although small sample sizes are common in qualitative descriptive research, researchers need to be careful they have enough data collected to meet the study aims (Ritchie et al., 2014). Pre-determining the sample size prior to data collection may stifle the analytic process, resulting in too much or too little data. Traditionally, the gold standard for sample size in qualitative research is data saturation, which differs depending on the research design and the size of the population (Fusch and Ness, 2015). Data saturation is reached ‘when there is enough information to replicate the study, when the ability to obtain additional new information has been attained, and when further coding is no longer feasible’ (Fusch and Ness, 2015, p. 1408). However, some argue that although saturation is often reported, it is rarely demonstrated in qualitative descriptive research reports (Caelli et al., 2003; Malterud et al., 2016). If data saturation is used to determine sample size, it is suggested that greater emphasis be placed on demonstrating how saturation was reached and at what level to provide more credibility to sample sizes (Caelli et al., 2003).

We didn’t bother finishing it because we didn’t really need the room. I went down there once out of the year we lived there. Like someone was watching you, pissed. Sometimes that creepy feeling would come upstairs. I would give it a week or so thinking it was in my head and then I would sit in the car with the baby while my husband burned sage to clear it out.

The shelter appears above the flood wash like a seaside cottage plucked from a coastal town. Several TV news crews have passed through his riverside community in the last few days, asking him and his neighbors about their way of life. Augusto doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about. He’s just trying to keep a roof over his head. And it just became harder and harder to pay for a room to live in,” Augusto said in Spanish while standing in the concrete channel, which carries runoff through the Highland Park neighborhood.

Since women- owned small businesses do not have to verify that they are both women-owned and small, large companies are able to self-certify as small businesses to take advantage of the program. Additionally, the federal government has a goal of awarding 5% of federal contracting dollars to women-owned small businesses each year. However, it has only met that goal twice since it was established over 20 years ago.

Happens a couple more times over the next few nights. So my sister is chatting with one of the other moms at the complex playground one day and the other lady mentions how creepy that is considering the guy that overdosed in that apartment a few years back. (Apparently his sons room was now my nieces room). So my mom does some digging and found the guys name, which lead to his obituary. Pulled up the picture from the obituary, and called my niece into the computer room. She got half a step into the room when she saw the photo on the monitor and ran out screaming about the man.

Sowden House in Los Angeles, California

Augusto, 43, arrived in Los Angeles roughly 20 years ago from Guatemala. For 15 years he worked as a house painter throughout Los Angeles County, but he struggled to find jobs after his employer died five years ago. The walls consist of discarded fencing and wood paneling repurposed by Augusto, a tarp serves as a roof, and the front yard is the industrial backdrop of a city’s flood channel. In a city of multimillion-dollar houses and celebrity estates, Cesar Augusto’s home stands apart. Just be mindful that the M4 assault rifles are as heavy as the real thing.

Leaving lights on, toys all over, things I knew I didn’t do. One day I was underneath my truck, which was supported by only a jack. (stupid, I know) I was in the middle of working on it, with no good reason to get out at that moment.

One night when I was about 12 I was drifting off to sleep then I clearly heard a baby laugh for 1-2 seconds. Presumed it was just my imagination and went to sleep. The next morning my sister mentioned that she’d been woken up by the sound of a baby crying.

They would walk backwards up the hall, never turning their back on whatever they were looking at. My mom made me sleep with her for like a week. I’ve had numerous experiences in that house though. It made a skeptical, big, burly construction worker with sun kissed skin turn pale as a ghost. There’s some more and a weird potential alien story that I won’t get into.

I woke up and noticed the door to my room was wide open, I normally sleep with it closed. I then became aware of a large (around 7ft tall) shadow-like figure watching me from the end of the bed. I would feel what felt like people sitting on my bed at night and then getting up shortly after. I’ve had lights turn on when I leave the house briefly. I watched one of our cats being pulled backwards about 5 feet by her tail. She was walking through the dining area and suddenly was sliding backwards, as if someone was pulling her by her tail.

We always used to joke that you would hear people or things moving at night but since the house is so old, we used to just laugh it off. My uncle’s house out on a very eastern part of NY was said to be haunted due to the family that used to own it in the 1800’s decided not to give it to the stableman and sold it instead. He and the maid were said to have haunted the place. I used to sleep on the 2nd floor (the bottom one being the 1st) and my sister in the attic.

Rumors about the crime and ensuing ghost stories continue to swirl to this day. If the story sounds familiar, it's probably because you recognize it from the bestselling book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Big Edie held onto the property until her death in 1977, and her spirit is said to remain at Grey Gardens, watching over the house. Among the believers is author and journalist Sally Quinn, best known for her column in the Washington Post, who purchased the home from Little Edie in 1979 and she swears that it’s haunted. The Ackleys found themselves entangled in a legal battle over whether or not they should have disclosed the haunted "nature" of the house to the Stambosvky family.

If you're a true crime and paranormal super fan, you've likely already heard of it. So many bad things have happened here—there's literally an entire Wikipedia page dedicated to its violent history. The first recorded death by suicide is in 1931, followed by a long string of similar deaths in 1932, 1934, 1937, 1938, 1939, and 1940. The Hotel Monte Vista has numerous paranormal guests they can’t get rid of. The hotel, which opened as the Community Hotel in 1927—named after the townspeople who helped raised the funds for its construction—has a history of underground opium dens, speakeasies, and gambling. Today, the hotel is known for the paranormal activity that haunts some of the rooms and halls.
